Rainy run in Maine

I’m in Maine for a bridal shower and bachelorette party, and it’s amazing to be near grandparents who are excited to take the kids.

Greg and I both put in some rainy miles while the kids were off with family, and then went into Portland for vegan sausages and local beer. Because sometimes comfort food is a must.

It was a cold, wet run…  but there’s something healing about running in the rain. I found a rhythm and while it was (again) a slower pace than in my past, I settled in and had three identical 11:07 minute miles.

I listened to the rain. Settled in. Felt the cold and felt above it. It was a little magical. Especially since it was followed by beer and sausage.

You may notice my new Hillary Clinton logo t-shirt. Insanely comfortable.

Happy to have another run done, and glad I felt great going in for close to 5 miles with only a day off after my 9 mile run. I’d like to pick up the pace… but it’s a good sign I can complete these runs comfortably given how much I’d let my baseline deteriorate.

On this chilly? Maybe?

  1. Way to go! I did my 12 mile run yesterday and feelin optimistic about my half in two weeks. It won’t be a PR, but I will get it done and tomorrow I get back to strength training. Kelly, the thing that makes us able to do this, even though we haven’t been training consistently, is that we were in great shape going into this. I think you can do this!

    1. I hope you’re right, I know I’ve been active, but it’s hard to know what will translate into running endurance sometimes! Glad to hear that your 12 mile run left you feeling optimistic. I like running even though I know it won’t be a PR sometimes, it’s when it’s a question of a DNF that I’m not sure about starting!
