The world is our playground

Greg bought a road bike a few weeks ago (what can I say, I’m so inspiring), and then suggested we go for a bike ride together to celebrate our anniversary.

To make it fun, he suggested we bike from Portland, ME to Freeport, ME and have lunch at an outdoor cafe and then head back.

It was 34 miles round trip, and it was amazing.

We kept the pace pretty easy since it was the furthest either of us had ridden, and it was so much fun. We saw so much of Maine we hadn’t seen before… And a lot we had on the Maine 1/2 Marathon course 🙂

Mostly it just felt epic. Crazy. To bike that far and have lunch, then bike home was really neat.

It reminded me that one of the biggest benefits of being active is that the world is your playground.

He and I can now take long bike rides together in the fall to see the autumn leaves changing. Rent bikes on vacation and spend hours touring a city together.

We can go further and still have energy than I ever would have thought. For me, anyway.

I like road races and triathlons. They keep me focused and training. But this, this is the why.

  1. We did the same pretty much the same a few weeks ago. We did 32 miles round trip on the North Branch Trail and stopped for lunch at the Botanic Garden. It was a beautiful day.
